 A charming vacation rental in Pocahontas County, WV. 

Yeager House is located in Bartow, in the heart of the Monongahela National Forest with its many opportunities for fishing, birding, hiking and biking.


Fishing
Fish in solitude in our many rivers and streams.  Pocahontas County is

the birthplace of eight rivers including the Greenbrier, Shavers Fork of
Cheat River and Elk River. Nearby lakes include, Buffalo Lake (5 miles east
of Bartow),the lake at Watoga State Park, Seneca Lake, and Spruce Knob
Lake, Licenses can be purchased at Trent’s General Store in Bartow.




Hiking and Biking
Numerous trails for bicyclists and hikers. These include the

Greenbrier River Trail, West Fork Trail, and the Allegheny Trail. 
Maps are available from the US Forest Service, located
on US 250 in Bartow, ½ mile from Yeager House.




Birding
Monongahela Forest has over 230 species of birds.  Sit quietly in the
forest, by a river or stream -- or even in the yard at Yeager House -- and
who know what you might see!

Snowshoe Mountain
Resort features year-round activities: skiing, snowboarding, biking,

horseback riding, and special events. Excellent dining and shopping.

Gaudineer Knob and the Gaudineer Scenic Area
Scenic overlook and picnic area atop the knob (elevation 4,450 feet)
About a mile away is a tract of about 50 acres of virgin spruce
representing the original forest, including some trees more than
three feet in diameter and 300 years old.

Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area
Some of the best rock climbing on the east coast.
From Yeager House: 35 miles



Spruce Knob
The highest peak in WV. Hike trails or drive to the summit where an observation tower offers a
360 view of the surrounding area.
From Yeager House: 50 miles




Beartown State Park
Half-mile boardwalk through unusual rock formations.
Located on Route 219.  Open April-October.

Cranberry Glades and Nature Center
A unique ecosystem with over 60 distinct plant species.
Handicap-accessible boardwalk and a Nature Center.

Watoga State Park
A 10,000-acre state park with over 40 miles of hiking trails and a lake with paddle and row boats.

Horseback Riding

Autumn Breeze Stables at Snowshoe Mountain offers guided Western Style trail riding for travelers of all ages and skill levels year-round. You can saddle up for rides 1-3 hours, 30-minute lake rides for kids 8 and under, plus buggy rides. Reservations required.

Yokums Seneca  Rocks Stables offers guided horseback rides to the top of Seneca Rocks. The trail is a gradual scenic climb and experienced guides go with you on every ride. Reservations recommended.

White Water Rafting
New River Gorge and the Gauley River are the premier whitewater rafting locations in
West Virginia, but are 2-3 hours travelling distance from Yeager House. Much closer is
the Cheat River. It offers premier springtime whitewater rafting, as well as, tubing,
canoeing, and kayaking.
